Socialism of Nehru in the Twenty-First Century: An Analysis*

The term socialism gained unprecedented currency in the Nineteenth Century, amidst the escalating industrialization in Europe. It also affected the prevalent European tradition of thinking. However, the premise of socialism is not merely the outcome of the European tradition of thinking or a product of the process of European industrialization. Rather, the concept claims an antiquity in Indian social philosophy. Therein it was rooted in ideas like Sabe Bhoomi Gopal Ki [all land…

Reflections on the Sad Events in Norway

I believe most of us think of Norway as a quiet little northern European country, where people are quiet and low-key, where the government provides for citizens' needs and where very little happens that would be considered "newsworthy" in this world where the media gravitates toward negative stories. What a shock to hear about this atrocious crime carried out in cold-blood, killing dozens of innocent people.

Even worse, in my opinion, is that this zealot felt that he was…

VISITING A BIO-VILLAGE NEAR BUDAPEST

I was invited by a Group named APRIGRAHA to a four-day event in a bio- village, near the Capital City of Hungary. This is a grassroots group which has been started by the local social activists on purely voluntary basis. The key person is Savitriji who belongs to Hungary. But at present she stays in Washigton DC, as her husband has been working for the World Bank.

Savitriji has been associated with DC based group Shanti Yoga Ashram founded by Rev. Victer Vyasaji in Bethasda.…

Anger and Prejudice could be a positive energy

Anger and Prejudice could be a positive energy

I have learned through bitter experience the one supreme lesson to conserve my anger, and as heat conserved is transmuted into energy, even so our anger controlled can be transmuted into a power that can move the world.

Say 'S' to Gandhi

Say 'S' to Gandhi

==================

The syllable ‘S’ must be revered as the most favorite one as many of Gandhi’s principles and doctrines start with that letter. Perhaps, most of the words in the Devanagari or Sanskrit language have that sound in the beginning of the word.

The Gandhian Smriti(literature) comprises the words starting with ‘S’ alphabet.

  • Sarvodaya - Equality and Welfare Of…

Harekrushna Mahatab

Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab, a journalist-author, an able administrator and social reformer, was one of those leading freedom fighters who at the call of Gandhi had joined the Non-Cooperation and Swadeshi Movement in 1920 to liberate the country from the colonial rule, and who associating themselves to social-constructive works had made public-service and nation-building the goal of their life.

Born on November 21, 1899 at Agarpada village in Bhadrak district of Orissa…

Gandhi in the Globalized World

Gandhi Ji seems to be the one among few people today who would be remaining at the mainstream of political thought for the centuries to come. His ideas and philosophy have been studied quite profusely in India and worldwide and he works as an institution of guidance for the thinkers, statesmen, and policymakers alike. In today’s globalized world the ideas of Gandhi Ji still bear the gloss and have the potential of guiding the people towards the establishment of a more humane and just society.… Continue

Gandhi On Value Education

Mahatma Gandhi’s name requires no introduction because of his invaluable contribution to the national liberation movement of India. It was he who awakening crores of people on the strength of non-violent activities, engaging them to an action, challenging the mighty empire of the world, ultimately threw the yoke of slavery. Those who believed that not a single country in the world history had achieved its freedom except by…
