Wreckage of a Library
Few months ago, my home office at Mettur was continuously locked for about two months while I was away in Chennai for training work. My family too was in Chennai at that time. Upon returning home, I was shocked to see the almirah that housed many classic books was attacked by termites and a heap of pest had eaten up all of them. Out of around 100 books, not a single book I could recover to use in future. The termite invasion was so severe that it degenerated and decomposed all of them leaving no room to collect atleast few important pages of the books. With a distressing state of mind, I threw away all the spoiled books into garbage.
The worst thing happened was that the damaged books included Mahatma Gandhi's "My Experiences with Truth" and some other titles by Leo Tolstoy, William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens. Luckily, I have kept "Bhagavat Gita" in pooja room and it escaped the attack. Some 10 books by Gandhi are safe as I had kept them in another shelf.
I am yet to buy a new copy of "My Experiences with Truth".
