It is a beautiful morning, in Cardiff, and I am listening to BBC radio news. The News come: In Pakistan 53 people were killed in a millitent-attack including two British army personel. BBC corrospondent was reporting live from Pakistan. When asked to tell people's reaction to the incident, reporter said, people are fearstriken and they are tolorating the security forces, but the political leadership is helpless. The question arises here is that if political leadership is helpless, which is officially responsible for the security and safety of the people and mentenence of law and order, something is seriously wrong with the State-Systems or with the poltical
leadership or ultimately with the people at large.
Some what same is the condition with the other countries so far as law, order and security of the ordinary people is concerned. For example India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Lot of unrest and tention have been prevailing, and unfortunately trends are gradually on the increase. It is becoming global concern for the civil society. Something is seriously wrong not only with the Systems that have been working, but the Society as a whole. For example, let us take the question of Security. People are worried about their economic security. This wrong notion has been pushing them to have more and more matterial things under their personal control. Thereby increasing the scarcity and short supplies which is again responsible for the insecurity of the common man.
Where will it lead to ? No government whatsoever, will be able to control this phenomenon. Ultimately, awakened citizens have to take the responsibility on their own. This is where the whole issue is depending on.
And this is where Gandhi's relevence is in today's politics. Gandhi was not at all in favour of Democracy as it makes the people more and more dependent, insteasd of, inependent and responsible. Today the dire need of the hour is to make the common citizens responsible. It is this spirit of awareness which will give the people the spirit of security and self-confidence, rather than, employing more and more Security Forces from other countries. This is what real non-violence social change means. Glairing example is of Britain, the economy today is at the very low ebb, due to the enormous expenses on the Security Forces deployed in Afganistan-Pak border.
This is what real security, peace and nonviolence have a positive and meaningful concept. I am sure ultimately
this is the wayout to the present caose, feeling of insecurity and social violence in the whole world today. We must start the process of Positive Thinking.
