Ayurveda verbally means the Science of Life. The Sanskrit word Ayurveda concists of two syllables: Ayur+ Veda, Ayur in Sanskrit means life and Veda means knowledge. The basic difference between Sanatan Wisdom and moderm medical system is the level of awareness. Sanatan Wisdom believes a person is living only when his body, mind and soul are fully alive and aware. While modern medical science believes only in physical 'breathing'. This is what Gandhi tried to prove in his experiments with truth that human energy is not merely physical. It is very very limited. The settle and boundless energy is inner power, and when this hidden power is explored and applied by human being to solve day today worldly problems, he can over come all wordly riddles of life. The question is of starting the process of exploring inner Energy. Today, the bigest crisis of modern world is the Energy. That is why I say that both Gandhi and Ayurveda are synonmous as well as relevent in solving today's problems. Gandhi taught us how to explore inner Energy to help solve wordly diasputes which is the real cause of cause of countless Wars that have been going on from time immemorial, one after the another ; and ordinary human being has been in immence sufferings. Gandhi was basically touched by the human sufferings. Basic gole of Ayurveda is also the same.

The crisis basically is, that real meaning of Ayurveda has been limited to physical sufferings and illness only, and temporary supression of sudden physical sufferings is far more effective in modern medical system than the Ayurvedic medical system. Ayurveda and Gandhi has tried to focus human attention on the real cause of sufferings in this world today.

Fortunately, we are aware of the real problem, the problem of Energy Crises. The only difficulty is the process of exploring the ways. The preasent process of exploring Energy is causing greater crises of Ecological disasters, like global warming, and thererfore endengers the very basis of human survival, for which Energy is beeing explored. I am confident that human being is capable enough to reach to the right path to explore the right ways. What we need at present is calmness of mind.

salutations.
I agree with your thoughts. The question is how to enlive more the mind and the soul? And may be prior to that the quest of a right knowdlege about the difference between the mind and the soul (may be adding also the spirit). If the education, and consequently the awareness of the soul was more alive, may be many problems of the mind and the use of the energies in the societies so much manipulated will be better solved.
I see you speaking of the boundless energy of inner power, but unfortunately we don't see so much of that, beyond some extraordinarie cases. What is wrong in our identification, religions, and cultures?
Is a large and long way to reach the fulfilling power, I supose...
But, most delighted witw your presence in Italy and your internetic rays...

Dear Arya, you make a fascinating point, that Ayurveda should not be restricted to the field of medicine but is Knowledge of Life in general, and that Gandhi's experiments showed how it could be applied more widely, particularly to the sphere of politics.

Satyagraha is sometimes translated as soul-force or love-force, and Gandhi demonstrated how this special power or energy could be cultivated and deployed to change the world.

Since Gandhi, we have had the good fortune to see soul-force at work in politics in many ways: in the Land Gift (Bhoodan) movement of Vinoba, in the civil rights movement in America, in the exacting scholarship and insistence on truth of Noam Chomsky, to give just a few examples.

Soul-force is all around us, whenever people sincerely struggle for what is right, and are prepared to make personal sacrifices for it. Of course, it is difficult to discern soul-force in the realm of power politics, which is dominated by greed, vanity and selfish intention. Fortunately, however, "the meek shall inherit the earth".

Matthew
