REMEMBERING ACHARYA VINOBA BHAVE------9

It was the year 1975, when Mrs. Indra Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, declared Internal Emergency. Political situation in the country was volatile. Mrs. Gandhi was disqualified form the Membership of the Parliament as she was found guilty of corrupt practices in her elections, by the Allahabad High Court. At that time Jaiprakash Narayan, JP, was leading the entire Right Wing Opposition Parties' Movement for Total Revolution in the whole country. JP has been undisputed leader of the…

REMEMBERING ACHARYA VINOBA BHAVE------8

Vinobaji had written a comentary on the 2nd chapter of Bhagwad Gita, The title of this small book is "Sthitprgya Darshan",in Hindi. It is a marvelous piece of original thinking like the Ishavasyabriti as I have mentioned in the previous Blog. In this small book Vinobaji had reflected as to how one should live in this World, so that he could overcome the problems by using the inner higher faculties that he has been gifted with, by Devine Will. This is most practical manual of day to day living…

REMEMBERING ACHARYA VINOBA BHAVE-------7

Not many people know that Vinobaji had been continuously doing Khadi Work at the grassroots level. While Gandhiji had been involved in many political activities all over the country, Vinobaji had been working for promoting Khadi Work. So much so that he was looking in to every detail of Khadi Work from the raw cotton to the finished Khadi. He was particularly worried about the poor spinners who had been working day and night to make both the ends meet. Vinobaji brought this fact into the…

REMEMBERING ACHARYA VINOBA BHAVE----6

Vinobaji took the vow of celebacy when he was young. He was never intersted in modern education. He used to laugh at the university graduates. He used to equate the graduates with the dry pumpkin seeds coming out of dry fruit which were just to go around without any practical use. That is why he did not go for university education. Instead, he was searching for inner evolution and social revolution. For this he used to read the biographies of great revolutionary people. He also organised…

REMEMBRING ACHARYA VINOBA BHAVE-------- 5

When my daughter, Meenu was 3 years old we went to visit Vinobaji-s Ashram at Pawnar. A very interesting incident happened. Meenu was seeing Vinobaji for the first time. She was totally innocent and on seeing Vinobaji in his shorts, she made a surprising remark, in Hindi language, " Babaji nange kion hain?" In english it meant, why Babaji (Vinobaji) are half nacked? Every one present there laughed and looked at Vinobaji as to how now Vinobaji would reply to the child. First of all Vinobaji…

REMEMBERING ACHARYA VINOBA BHAVE -----4

Vinobaji from his teenage was a social revolutionary as well as an inner evolutionary. His father wanted him to be a brilliant youngman after passing through Baroda University. But Vinobaji had a different life. After passing his high school he decided to either go to Himalya for inner evolution or go to Bengal to become a revolutionary. So, he left home without telling his family. On the way to Varanasi(Banaras), vinobaji write a post card telling his people that he was leaving the home for…

REMEMBERING ACHARYA VINOBA BHAVE-------3

I visited Vinobaji's Ashram at Pawnar in the year 1967. Vinobaji had been on his Mission. I was a part of a group of trainees from University of Delhi on one month training in rural living. We were sent to a village Karajgaon, six miles away from the district headquarter Betul, in Madhya Pradesh. A renown Sarvodaya Worker and an agricultural expert, G.U. Patenker, was the founder of this Ashram. The special thing about Sh. Patenkar was that he started the Gandhi's work from his own village.…

I first met Vinobaji in the year 1968 in Bodhgaya, Bihar. It was the peak of the Bhoodan Movement. Thereafter, Vinobaji came to settle at his Ashram, Brahm Vidya Mandir, Pawnar, Wardha. I vividly remember one incident that happend during this period. It was the year of Gandhi's 100th birthday and Government of India was planning eloborate programme through out the year all over the country. A big continent of media persons reached his Ashram at Pawnar in order to acquire Vinobaji's message…

REMEMBERING ACHARYA VINOBA BHAVE--- 1

November 15th is Acharya Vinoba Bhave's Death Anniversary. I was on my way to Europe. Vinobaji has been one of my inspiring spirits. I came to know Vinobaji when I was teenager. He was on his Bhoodan Mission, on a long walk of the whole counrty, for bringing social change through Love and Compassion. He had been walking for fourteen long years through the length and breadth of the whole counrty (1951-1965). This event amazed and impressed me most. I started thinking of this extraordinary…
