I would like to briefly reply to your comment on my blog post about "new/old" paradigms.
Of course, you are right that the "new" nonviolent paradigm is not at all new. All major religions are quite old and already have a "nonviolent" component. Some people call this paradigm "new" because it is being rediscovered nowadays in somewhat new terms.
I do not agree with your statement, that Islam is based on violence. It is clearly written in Koran that "There is no compulsion in religion" (The Cow [2.256]). It allows fighting only for those who are attacked. Indeed some verses in Koran sound quite violent if taken out of the context. But if properly understood and interpreted, Islam is a peaceful religion.

Also, remember Abdul Gafar Khan, "the frontier Gandhi", and his nonviolent movement Khudai Khidmatgar. He is a true muslim in my opinion, in contrast to Bin Laden.
