Gandhi Global Family presents Shanti Doot awards - 2012

Jammu, May 06 (Scoop News) –Gandhi Global Family (GGF) today organised give away Shanti doot awards to twenty six persons at a function organised to mark Budha Purnima.

The Minister of State for Power and Forest, Shabir Ahmed Khan was the chief guest on the occasion.

The Vesak day observed as Budha Purnima is the most auspicious and sacred day of the Budhist calendar. The Vesak festival falls on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Vaisakha month and thus called Budha Purnima-the full moon day of Budha. This coincides with the months of April-May of Gregorian calendar. Buddha Purnima festival commemorates the birth, enlightenment (Nirvana) and death (Parinirvana) of Gautam Budha.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shabir said that Mahatma Budha was the greatest enlightener of the world. World follows his theory of non-violence. He further added that Lord Budha said that “It was better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from your, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell and also the peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.

Appreciating Gandhi Global family for its contribution towards spreading the message of pe3ace around the world, Shabir said that its role remained appreciable during the turmoil period in the state. He said that under the able leadership of Union Health Minister Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, the GGF has done commendable job in brining peace and stability in the state.

Earlier, Padam Shree Mr S P Verma, President of Gandhi Global Family, while welcoming the dignitaries and awardees on the occasion said that in the 1920s, Mahatma Gandhi proclaimed himself a Buddhist, saying that Buddhism was rooted in Hindustan and represented its essence. During his visit to Sri Lanka in 1927, Gandhi had no hesitation in declaring that he was a “Buddhist” because he saw Buddhism as cleansed Hindustan. Viscount Louis Mountbatten, the last viceroy of India, was quoted as saying; Mahatma Gandhi will go down in history at par with Buddha and Jesus Christ’, he recalled.

During the function Shanti Doot Awards were presented by the Minister to the 26 eminent personalities of Jammu Kashmir for their contribution towards the nation for promoting peace.

Those presented Shanti Doot Awardees-2012 included Justice B L Bhat, R L Bharti, General (Retd) G S Jamwal, Sohil Kazmi, Soujanya Sharma, S Ravinder Singh, Sanjit Khajuria, Subash Shastri, Dr Vinod Shastri, Kumari Padma Dolkar, Haji Juma Khan, C A Pardip Gandotra, Sr Adv. Subash Dutt, Prof Ved Ghai, Rev. Ashish Mattoo, Dr Nutan Kumar Esutra, Smt Urmila Bambroo, Virender Jain, Ravi Kant Sharma, Sonam Wangchuk, S Dehmodar Singh, Smt Shakuntala Joshi, Kumari Stanzin Kunzang, Dr Phuntsog Angmo, Advocate Tashi Rabstan and I C Jandial.
