Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced that the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the Marina stretech and the former Chief Minister Kamaraj's Memorial in Kaniyakumari would be renovated at a cost of Rs 48.05 lakh.

An official press release here said the government headed by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has been taking several measures to preserve the memorials of leaders who fought for the nation's Independence and uplift.

She announced that the statue of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi here will be renovated and repaired at a cost of Rs 11.95 lakh.

Additional lighting will be provided and colourful flower pots would be kept around the statue, the release added.

Meanwhile, to pay rich tributes to Mr Kamaraj, his memorial at Kanyakumari will be renovated at a cost of Rs 37 lakh, the release added. (UNI)
