County Commissioner Tim Boyd told City Council members on Tuesday that he is allotting $33,000 of his annual $100,000 in "discretionary funds" to two city projects.
He is providing $13,000 toward the visit of the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi to Chattanooga. Dr. Arun Gandhi, who teaches how to take his grandfather’s philosophy of non-violence into lives and onto streets, will be here Sept. 17-21.
His funding will go toward Dr. Gandhi's travel expenses and for an honorium.
Commissioner Boyd is also providing $20,000 for supplies for a pavilion to be constructed at a park in the Belvoir neighborhood at Mayfair Avenue and South Sweetbriar.
He told council members that a large number of his constituents live in the city.
